Rainbow Bed

Last year we worked with Leighlinbridge Improvement Group to plant a rainbow bed in our school. This year we decided to grow the flowers we need for it from seed. During the week February 26th to March 2nd we sowed the following seeds:

Red: Salvias
Orange: Marigolds
Yellow: Marigolds
Green: Parsley is still in the bed from last year
Blue: Lobelia
Indigo:
Violet: Brachycome

When we returned to school after our Easter holidays, we transplanted the seedlings. Out of 115 seeds only 38 salvias have germinated. The marigolds are plentiful and easy to handle. Lobelia seedlings are tiny and difficult to separate. have germinated well. Only 40 asters have germinated from 115 seeds. When we planted these seeds we had to cover them with a fine layer of vermiculite to prevent the stems from rotting when they started to grow.
